Show Gymnastics Program For Boys USA Gymnastics World of Bountiful recently announced the formation of a boys gymnastics gym-nastics program geared for competition. The boys have begun learning the United States Gymnastics Federation National Compulsory Routines, and hope to begin competing with other similar programs in Utah and surrounding sur-rounding states as early as January. CHRIS LEECH is the boys program director. A native of Chicago, 111., Mr. Leech is a physical education major at the University of Utah, and has been with USA Gymnastics Gymnas-tics World since January. He is a strong believer in sound fundamentals and places special emphasis on strength and conditioning. "Gymnastics is one of the hardest har-dest sports for boys as it requires re-quires not only flexibility but a tremendous amount of upper body strength. What the boys learn in gymnastics also helps them to be more successful with a variety of other sports." THE BOYS program at USA Gymnastics World has been growing rapidly as the sport continues to become more popular with national figures as Kurt Thomas and Bart Connor Con-nor leading the way. Gymnastics was once thought to be a "girls sport," and although girls still outnumber outnum-ber boys by almost 8 to 1, that ratio is slowly decreasing. THE BOYS program at Gymnastics World is the oniy competitive program north of Salt Lake City with only one other program in the Salt Lake area also providing competition competi-tion for boys. Any boys interested in starting start-ing gymnastics may call 298-2219 298-2219 daily between 3-3:30 for additional class information. Registration for November will be Oct. 28, 29 and 30 from 4-6 p.m. |
