'A I V. ; MEMBERS OF THE Ute Tribal Council have signed with Rocky Mountain Expeditions of Buena Vista, Colo, to run five and ten day raft trips on the Green River of the Uintah & Ouray Reservation, Utah. Ute Tribe signs rafting expeditions An exclusive, long-term contract was sijned November 2 between the Ute Indian Nation in Ft. Duchesne, and Al McClelland of Rocky Mountain Ex-editions, Ex-editions, (RMX) based in Buena Vista, Colorado. KMX will operate five and ten day raft trips through the rapids of the Gray and Desolation Canyons of the Green River, part of the Ute tribal lands. Trips will put in near Bottle Hollow Resort, Ft. Duchesne, and take out at Green River City, 160 miles down-suvam. down-suvam. Rafting trips will not only be exciting white water adventures, but they will focus on the cultural history and legends of the Ute people and on the preservation of the environment. Special photography and art workshops are scheduled throughout the season. Experts in these fields will accompany every trip. Optional stays can be arranged tat Florence Creek, an isolated yet luxurious lodge built on the site of the area's first settlement, three days down-river or a half-hour helicopter ride from Bottle Hollow. Incidentally, Florence Creek served as one of Butch Cassidy's frequent hideouts. The Green River season starts in May and extends through October, 1980. Prices start at $375 per person for the five day trip. Rocky Mountain Expeditions has been in the rafting business for the last eight years. They also operate float trips on the Arkansas and Delores Rivers in Colorado and on the Rio Grande in Texas. |
