Show 2 property rezonings approved by city Vernal City Council approved two rezonings last week, but denied rezoning of a third piece of property. Bryce Caldwell and Charles Preece petitioned the city Nov. 7, to rezone property at the intersection of Sixth North and Vernal Avenue from residential to commercial, but due to a complaint that the future Sears store on the rezoned property would block the view and ruin a garden spot, Caldwell was urged by the council to speak with the neighbors to resolve the situation and to bring it before the council again. In the Nov. 28 meeting Caldwell said he would set the building 20 feet back from Vernal Avenue to prevent the new building from blocking an elderly neighbor's view, and not to affect their garden spot. The council approved the rezoning after the elderly neighbors were satisfied with Caldwell's accommodations. ac-commodations. Also Geral Clark, a local builder, asked the council to rezone an area at Eighth West and Fourth South from RA-1 to R-2 to build ten fourplex apartments. His request was turned down because of protests from neighboring neigh-boring residents. Newell Warren requested that the property on the Warren Trailer Court be rezoned to allow apartments to be built in place of the court. Warren is selling the court the need to rezone to assure the sale. The council approved the zoning change, noting that apartments would ik an iiiiui uvemeiiL 10 uie pam. The council also heard complaints to the vacation of a right-of-way on Second East from Gayle McKeachnie and Alvin Kay. The complaintants asked the city for some consideration for safety at the intersection of First North and Second East. They also questioned the legality of the vacation. The city attorney, Richard Davidson, quoted the law saying that if the property owner owns all abutting property, the vacation didn't need to be advertised. The city promised to look at a 4-way stop at the intersection. |
