Show Uintah grapplers net first place honors The Valley Tournament's championship champion-ship trophy was added to Uintah trophy case as the Utes pocketed first place honors at Union High School November 27, in Vernal. Following Uintah's second se-cond team in the standings were: Wasatch, second; Union, third; Lehi, fourth; Union junior varsity team, fifth; fif-th; North Sanpete, sixth; Morgan, seventh and Manti, eighth. Uintah captured three first places, three seconds, two thirds and one fourth place in the Valley Tournament. Brett Brown pinned Paulson of North Sanpete for first place in the 98 pound class. Brown pinned Hunt and downed McCook Mc-Cook of Union, 8-1. Ron Horrocks downed Downs of Lehi, 6-3, for first place in the 105 pound bracket. Horrocks pinned Ripple, Wasatch and Wilson ol Morgan. Jeff Good, a sophomore, blanked Union's Cundall, 2-0, in overtime for the 112 pound title. Good pinned Keilholz of Manti and nipped Bonner of Wasatch, 5-4. Frank Atwood pinned Webester of Morgan and downed Larson of Lehi. Hamilton of Union thumped Atwood, 11-2, for the 132 pound first place title. Wayne Nichols defeated Dennison, Manti and Thayn, Lehi. Union's Young downed Nichols, 10-6, for first place in the 145 pound class. Kay Smuin, 167, pinned Syme of North Sanpete and defeated Sweat of Wasatch. Zane Pentz of Morgan edged Smuin, 4-1, for first place. Haws of Lehi defeated Brent Hales, 185, in the first round, but Hales beat Layton, Morgan; Hormer, Wasatch and Syndergaard, Manti, 5-3, for third place. Kim Reid, 155, was thumped by Cummings of Wasatch in the first round. Reid thumped Hunter, North Sanpete; Jones, Morgan and Allman, Lehi, 5-3, for third place. Don Bohrer pinned Ermimi of Morgan, and was defeated by Hamby of Lehi. Bohrer downed Daniels of North Sanpete and was downed by Wasatch's Sullivan, 4-2, in the battle for third place. Union's Danny Farnsworth toppled Hamby of Lehi for first place in the unlimited class. Shelly of North Sanpete pinned Haws of Lehi for first place at 185 pounds. Frank Winn of Union defeated Cummings of Wasatch for first place in the 155 pound class. Hoopes of Union downed Johnson for first place at 138 pounds. Young of Wasatch toppled Dow ns of Lehi for first place in the 126 pound class. Lehi's Grant downed 112 pounder, Kohler of Wasatch for first place. Union's McCook Mc-Cook placed third at 98 pounds and Fisco, Union, 105, placed fourth. Keith Campbell, 112; Cory McNeill, 126 and Mark Robb, 138, did not place. McNeill pinned Judkins of Morgan in the first round and then was defeated 13-11 by Downs of Lehi and by Gault. |
