Show Police chief concerned by holiday traffic Especially this time of year, Vernal City Police Chief, Jonathan B. Jones, is worried about Vernal's traffic record. He adds two and two together to come up with several "deadly combinations" which spell trouble. His concerns are as follows : The holidays, themselves, are a combination com-bination of two important events Christmas and New Year. They pair "last-minute-rush" thoughtlessness with some of the year's worst and most unpredictable weather. "In-a-hurry" motorists and pedestrians come together in greater numbers on overcrowded streets and shopping areas. The "holiday spirit" often adds more partying and alcohol involved festivities than many of us can take. Research and study information circulated cir-culated by the International Association Associa-tion of Chiefs of Police indicates that alcohol is a factor in as many as half of all traffic accidents, the Chief pointed out. He was emphatic about measures his department is taking to hold down the disastrous effects of holiday combinations combina-tions that can be deadly. "If you think you can scoff at common-sense traffic laws, safe winter driving practices, or get away with drinking and driving, remember this fair warning: "Our department will be out with all the manpower we can muster to protect you and others from your own danperous thinking." "We may not win popularity contests." con-tests." the Chief concluded, "but we are determined to see that all our laws are strictly and fairly enforced!" |
