Vernal Psjraher hoojpstfers sExin Green E3d ver Wolves The Vernal Junior High 9th grade Panthers scored only 24 points in the first half, but they exploded for 47 points in the second half and whipped the Wolves from Green Riyer, Wyoming, Wyom-ing, Friday, 71 to 37 in Vernal. Ned Seitz put in the first two field goals of the game and Brian McNamara popped in the first free throw for a 5-0 Vernal lead. However, Vernal could manage only two points in the rest of the quarter and had a 7 to 3 lead at the end of the first quarter. Kary Hamilton tossed in a free throw for an 8-3 lead, but Green River flipped in two field goals, which cut Vernal's lead to 8-7. Vernal outscored Green River, 16 to 6, in the rest of the second quarter to take a 24 to 13 lead into the locker room. The Panthers went wild in the scoring department in the third quarter as they . scored 27 points and allowed Green River only seven counters. The score at the end of the third quarter was: Vernal, Ver-nal, 51 and Green River, 20. Jeff Drollinger and Brian McNamara were the top scorers for the Panthers in the wild third quarter. Drollinger popped pop-ped in nine points in two field goals and five free throws. McNamara tossed in three field goals and two free throws. Jerry Haslem hit a shot at the buzzer for the Panthers in the third quarter. A free throw and a field goal by Brian McNamara and a two-pointer by Doug Allen gave Vernal its biggest lead in the ball game at 32 points, 56 to 24. Vernal went on to win the ball game by the score of 71 to 37. The top scorer in the game for Vernal was Jeff Drollinger with 15 points. Brian McNamara flipped in 12 points. Also scoring points for Vernal were: Clark Emery, 8; Jerry Haslem, 8; Ned Seitz, 6; Kary Hamilton, 5; Mike Weldon, 4; Doug Bowen, 4; Galen Turner, 3; Jim Abegglen. 2; Quint Slade, 2; and Doug Allen, 2. Vernal hit 29 field goals and 13 out of 32 free throws. Vernal committed 28 fouls. The top scorer for Green River was Quintals at 16 points. "We played a good second half. We were tight and nervous in the first half. We played poor defense in the first half," said Vernal coach, Pete Ren-cher. Ren-cher.
