SMELTERING TRASH was dumped onto the street after catching fire inside the garbage truck. The fire was caused by hot ashes being put in garbage cans. Hot ashes burn city gaFbage truck Vernal City sanitation personnel made a quick discharge of garbage onto First East and 24 South last Monday after the garbage caught fire inside their garbage truck. "The fire was caused by residents disposing hot ashes in their garbage cans and the ashes are put in the truck with the other trash. Air blowing into the moving truck feeds the hot ashes causing them to catch fire," said Lyman Merkley, public works director. "We turned the corner and the truck was blazing," reported the city sanitation sanita-tion crew. "We try to check all trash cans for hot ashes, but some slip by." The truck valued at $55,000 received severe damage to its wiring and hydrolic hoses, Merkley said. "Vernal residents need to be reminded remind-ed not to put hot ashes in their garbage cans." Merkley added. "Spread them on your garden spot or dampen them before putting them in the trash." |
