Show Your child's IEP and you the parent By Supt. Wayne Reid Under the banner that parents need and must become involved in the educational programs of their children, the Uintah School District has joined forces with the State Board of Education in developing an I.E.P. for each child in our school system. I.E.P.?? Let's see is this just another series of unmeaningful letters to throw parents astray? Not in the least! I.E.P. means Individual Education Plan which is a unifying effort of both home and child and school's attempt to direct the child into a meaningful direction to become a worthwhile member of our society. Like sunshine filtering down through storm clouds, this event is revitalizing the educators faith in education and makes possible giant strides in helping students grow and develop into mature adults, well-trained additions to the work force, and worthy citizens of our communities. Graduation requirements now require all secondary students to have the opportunity to pursue an individual education plan. Becoming known by its acronym, I.E.P., the individual education plan brings the opportunity for student to sit down with the teacher, to bring mom and dad into the picture, and all together outline classes, activities, ac-tivities, and goals which will meet the student's individual needs. This program facilitates individual educational planning because now the graduation requirements now permit a school the necessary flexibility to change the former rigid requirements, as appropriate, to meet the needs of each individual student. The Uintah School District Board of Education welcomes all patrons into our schools. We're delighted to see you there. Now, you'll have another paramount reason to be there. ..it's your child's future! Set up an appointment ap-pointment with your teachers or prinicpal to discuss the I.E.P. and your child. |
