Show STRIKE IN A BLIND DRIFT gazette idaho springs colo one of the best strikes that has been made in the past year is reported from the little mattie property over a month ago tle the management began following a feeder from froin the of the vein and in the fifth level of the property and the result has been a constant widening out of the feeder into a substantial ore body today a cross vein is being passed and the formation is such that the miners believe that from now on will be found an ore body of remarkable richness in following the feeder the ore body widened to from 4 to 10 inches and during the month four men were able to take out ore that netted this was sorted into two classes the first class consisted consi of a little over 10 tons netting at the sampler the values were ounces gold and 70 ounces silver there wa was s about 25 tons of second class netting this shipment of first class is in itself one of the best for its size that has ever been made in the idaho springs district for years according to F Y D wiley of the chamberlain dillingham sampler samper but what is more important is the manner in which the values have increased as the drifting proceeded the ore shows a continued increase in gray copper which always carries high values in the mattle mattie and superintendent in angus states that he is confident that they are entering another of the ore shoots for which the little le mattie was famous in the early days the new strike is found in ground being worked by the company and not by leasers leaders lea sers and is some distance west of the ore body found by leaser parker last spring from which over a month was produced the parker lease was found in the fourth level leval showing values richer than those above it this encouraged the company to develop the fifth level and they are just opening into the ground immediately under the parker lease to find this ore shoot the fifth level has been driven past the new find and the drifter crift on the feeder runs backward westerly toward the shaft heretofore the mining operation in the property have been confined principally to the veins and no attempt has been made to crosscut on feeders this practice has proven successful in other properties however proving that feeders often lead to ore shoots leasers leaders in the second and third avels have now begun crosscutting in the hopes of finding the same ore shoot sixty feet of sloping ground has been opened up in the new strikes which will prove profitable in itself even though the better ore does not materialize on the opposite side of the cross vein as is anticipated by the miners |
