The Utes were nipped by Nampa, Nam-pa, Idaho, in a dual meet in Vernal, Thursday, 21 to 18. Ufles win sin mcrtches, buf lose flo Nampa, Idaho 21-1Q Brothers, Randy Smuin and Kay Smuin, won back to back matches and delivered a 15 to 14 lead to the Uintah Utes, with three matches to go, but the Nampa, Idaho, Bulldogs won two of the final three contests to nip the Uintah Utes in Vernal, Thursday, 21 to 18. A pin by the Utes' Ken Cobbs in the heavyweight bout would force the meet into a 21-21 tie, but after almost pinning Harvey Pollock in the first round he was unable to flatten the Bulldog tussler's shoulder blades against the match in the second and third rounds. The dual meet consisted of the state champions from Utah, Uintah and the Idaho State Champs from Nampa. The Nampa team traveled 335 miles to compete in the dual meet with the Uintah Utes. Each team won six matches, but Nampa garnered three four-point major decisions. Neither team was able to come up with a pin during the dual meet. Major decisions' are gained when a wrestler wins by 8 to 11 points. Uintah jumped out to a 6-0 lead when Josh Reynolds, 98, toppled Nampa 's Jeff Agenbroad, 6' to 2 and Ron Hnrrocks. 105. thumped David Hebison of Nampa, 7-1. Agenbroad leaped out and dropped Reynolds for a takedown, but Reynolds gained a reversal, which tied to score at 2-2 after one round of action. The score was tied at 2-2 going into the final round, but Reynolds netted a reversal and a two-point two-point near fall for a 6-2 win. The Utes' Horrocks knocked Hebison down due to a takedown, but the Nampa tussler narrowed Horrocks' lead to 2-1 with a penalty point. Horrocks gained a reversal in the second round and a three-point near fall in the third round to win the contest, 7-1. Nampa pocketed two wins in a row for a 7 to 6 advantage over the Uintah Utes. Lane Westfall of Nampa thumped Uintah's 112 pounder, Foston Olivers, 17 to 12. and Gary Nelson, 119, gained a 14-3 major decision over Uintah's Jeff Good. Olivers picked up the takedown in the first round, but Westfall nabbed a reversal, three-point near fall and a penalty point for a 6 to 2 lead. The Utes Olivers gained a reversal and a three-point three-point near fall in the second round, but Westfall picked up two reversals and a two-point near fall for a 12-7 advantage. Nampa 's Westfall nabbed three-point and two-point near falls, but Olivers reversed his opponent and placed him on his back in the final 12 seconds for a three point near fall. Westfall's shoulder blades weren't flat against the mat so he was able to escape with a 17 to 12 w in. . Nelson nabtod a 5-0 lead in the first round on a takedown and a three-point near fall and increased it to 9-1 after two rounds of action. A reversal by Good cut Nelson's lead to six points. 9 to 3. but the Bulldog matman nabbed an escape and a takedown for a 14 to 3 major decision The Uintah l ies gained a 9 to 7 lead when Cory McNeill won a wild and roof txister of a match by the scord of 14 to 9. Nampa 's 126 pounder, Dewayne En-sley, En-sley, dropped McNeill for a takedown, but McNeill nabbed an escape and a takedown for a 3 2 lead at the end of the first round. An escape and a takedown delivered a 6 to 5 lead to Cory McNeill after two rounds of action. Ensley gained a three-point three-point near fall for an 8 to 6 lead, but McNeill pocketed an escape and a takedown for a 9 to 8 advantage w ith 48 seconds left. Ensley escaped to tie the match at 9 9, but McNeill dropped the Idaho wrestler for a takedown and a three-point near fall in the final ten seconds to win the contest, 14 to 9. Nampa pocketed a 14 to 9 advantage when Kerry Hansen, 132, blanked Allen Ruber, 8 0, for a four-point major (k-cision and Loamond Thueson, 138, nipped Matt Hacking, 5 to 2. Hansen pix keted a 2-0 lead after two rounds due to a takedown in the first round. Hansen added an escape, takedown and a three-point near fall in the third round for a 8-0 win. Thueson dropped Hacking for the takedown in the first round and Hacking cut Thuesnn's lead to 2-1 by nabbing an escape. The Nampa tussler Rained a neutral in the second round and a takedown in the third round and a takedown in the third round for a 5 2 win. Sophomore, Handy Smuin, 145, nipped Eddie Middleton, 3-2 and his brother Kay Smuin, 155, blanked Garth Cliristensen, 2 0, for a 15 to 14 Uintah lead with three matches to go. Randy Smuin pocketed a takedown for a 2-0 lust round lead. Uintah's Smuin nabbed a neutral for n 3 0 lead and was going after a takedown, but slipped and Middleton pocketed the takedown.wliich cut Smuin'slead to 3 2. Smuin blanked Middleton in the third round for a 3 2 victory. Kay Smuin pocketed poc-keted his winning hmihs hi the second round when lie reversed Cliristensen for a reversal and a 2 0 win. Nampa gained a 21 to 15 lead when Brent Hall, 1C.7, downed Billy Bedell, 9 to 1, and Mike McMichael, 185, toppled Art Daley, 11 to 4. Hall jumped out to a 4 0 lead in the second round due to two near falls. A neutral and n takedown gave Hall a 7 to 1 lead. Bedell escaped, fell liackwards and was dropped for a takedown at the buzzer, which gave Nampa n 4 point major decision at 9 1. McMichael downed Daley for n ,kedown and a three-point near fall in tne second rouna. However, Daley turned on the gas for an escape and a takedown, which cut McMichael's lead to seven points. Nampa was awarded only a, three-point decision, and Uintah s shot at a tie was still alive. Ken Cobbs, Uintah's heavyweight connected for a takedown arid had Pollock in a pinning situation, but tne first round buzzer sounded and Cobbs was given a three-point near fall. Cobbs escaped from ToITock in the second round, but had trouble catching the tussler for a takedown. Pollock-pocketed Pollock-pocketed a neutral and Cobbs dropped him for a takedown, but was unable to turn him over for a pin.
