Show Camp Tokawana DUP to meet at Louise Caldwell's On January 4 the new year for Camp Tokawana DUP began with a very small attendance of only 12 members. The meeting was held at the home of Delores Stephenson. Marguerite Curtis and Edna Anderson helped w ith hostess duties. Captain Marie Lee was unable to attend. Secretary Lila Robins conducted con-ducted the meeting. Eleanor Rust gave the prayer. Geraldine Powell lead the pledge to the flag. Sharon Evertson led "Utah We Love Thee." The minutes of our December 7 meeting were read and approved. Thelma Thacker gave the history of her great grandfather, Joseph Madison Thomas. He left Winter Quarter on June 17.18-17 and arrived in Salt Lake City, Utah on October 12. 1847. He fought in the Blackhawk War. A lot of his time was spent in helping the Indians In-dians to Ix-tter their lives. The Indians were very fond of him. The lesson about the life of David Pettigrew was given by Sharon E' ertson. The material presented was mostly about the persecution of the saints and Mr. Pettigrew 's family in particular. His grandfather immigrated im-migrated from Scotland. Mr. Pettigrew was born in 1791 in Vermont. In 1825 he turned to the Lord determined to change his life. He turned first to the Methodist Church, then to the Mormon Church. He came with the early pioneers to Utah. The next meeting will be on Feb. 1 at the home of Louise Caldwell. Members are urged to come out and support our camp. |
