Show Vernal has holiday visitors TOO LATE FOR LAST WEEK-Mr. and Mrs. Calvin Jorgensen have had many visitors during the holidays. Their son, Grant, and his wife of San Jose, Calif., flew in December 22 and spent last week with them. Their daughter, Calva Van Dyke, of Lewiston, Utah, who is a teacher, came by bus and spent her school vacation with her parents. They all left for their homes Monday of last week. Mr. and Mrs. Calvin Van Dyke and three children drove over from Price and spent Saturday here. He is a grandson of the Jorgensens. Since Calvin Jorgensen's 82nd birthday birth-day was Dec. 31, they celebrated it a day early with a mini-reunion so other family members from this area could assemble at their home yesterday for a birthday party with much music and refreshments. Those attending were: Mr. and Mrs. Leo Jorgensen, their daughter, Lisa, a foster Indian daughter, Francis, and a friend, Mr. and Mrs. Rex Jorgensen and their three little girls, Mr. and Mrs. Brent Allred and their 17-month-old twins, a boy and a girl, Leona's sisters, Marie Hatch, Vena Wardcll, Mr. and Mrs. Clifton Smith, and Mr. and Mrs. Willard Rasmussen, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Marshall Mar-shall also came from Leota. Mr. and Mrs. Warren Merkley, assistant assis-tant managers at the Antlers Motel, enjoyed en-joyed week-long holiday visits from three of their children. Their son, Marty, Mar-ty, is a faculty member at the University Universi-ty of Southern California in Los Angeles where he teaches stage settings and directing, and also directs operas. Their twin daughters and their husbands were also here. Mr. and Mrs. Jerry (Janet) I-ewis arc students at BYU and have returned to Provo. Mr. and Mrs. Steven (Julie) Petersen have completed a course at Ricks and will be going to BYU for the coining term. The Merkleys other daughter, Triss, and her husband, Daniel Stephens, live in Fulda, Germany, where he is stationed on a 3 years Army assignment. Mr. & Mrs. Ron (Jolene) Harmon and children of Salt I-ake Cily visited her parents, the Wesley Robbins. Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth James, managers of the Dinah Jeans had holiday holi-day visitors. Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Francis Heigel of LaMar, Colorado, and her brother and sister from Denver spent the week in Vernal. Mr. and Mrs. Mike (Glenna) Tunnell and three small daughters of Midway came to spend the holidays in Vernal at the home of her parents, the Jerry Hat-chs, Hat-chs, and his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Grady Chupp. A Christmas guest at the home of Mr. and Mrs. David Rust was Eleanor's father, Ernest Johnson of Stockton, Utah. Mr. and Mrs. Tex Sweatfield had all their family at home for the holidays for the first time in many years. Mr. and Mrs. Thomas (Gena) Waite and four little girls came from Grantsville. Allen and his wife, Linda, both students at SUSC came from Cedar City with their little daughter and baby son. Col-..et'te, Col-..et'te, a student at BYU came from Pro- " vo. Miss Laurie Haws, a student at BYU, returned to Provo Tuesday of last week after spending the school holiday vacation vaca-tion at home with the Irvin Haws fami- iy. Mr. and Mrs. Leland Rex of Diamond Bar, California, former Vernal residents, visited week before last at the home of their daughter, Mrs. John Robbins, and with other friends. Mr. and Mrs. Roy (Evelyn) Showalter left Saturday of last week to return to Mesa, Ariz, after spending a ten-day holiday vacation in Vernal. While here they visited their daughter, Susan Hodgkinson and family, the Paul Battys, and other friends and relatives. Mr. and Mrs. William (Sharon) Schaefermeyer and four children, Mr. and Mrs. David Schaefermeyer and four children, all of Hunter, and Mr. and Mrs. Mike Schaefermeyer of Roy were holiday guests at the home of their parents, the Arthur Schaefermeyers. Visitors at the home of the Gilbert Bennetts for the Christmas weekend were Dr. and Mrs. James (Jerrie Helen) McBride and five sons of Estes Park, Colorado. The Gary B. Taylors have enjoyed the holidays with all of their family at home. Their daughter, Tammy, and Mr. and Mrs. Tim (Becky) Branscomb and young son of Provo were here and Mr. and Mrs. Chuck (Stacy) Martin came from Salt Lake City. Stacy is a registered nurse and is working at the LDS Hospital in the cardiac unit. A guest at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Morris Monsen during the month of December was Dolores' mother, Jennie Goodrich, who is 91 years old. On the 29th, Garda Seeley, Dolores' sister, of Bluebell and other relatives visited them here, and then Mrs. Seeley took her mother home with her. Mr. and Mrs. Craig Monsen and baby girl of Huntington came Dec. 29 to visit over the weekend with his parents, the Morris Monsens. They also brought Morris' sister, Jessie Olsen for Fcrron, with them and all left Monday of Inst week to return home. A recent visitor at the Brian Bracken-bury Bracken-bury home was Mrs. Vella Williams of Salt Lake City, JaNae's mother, who spent the 4-day Christmas weekend at their home. Last weekend their guests were Mr. and Mrs. Paul Harris and two children of Panguitch who came to look for a home here. Mr. Harris is working with Mr. Brackenbury in the oil rig electrical service business. Mr. and Mrs. Brent Fox drove to Salt Lake Dec. 21 and then took a plane to Bellevue, Washington, to spend Christmas with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Schmaulle. They visited with Jan's relatives and friends in Bellevue and were able to lour the grounds and take pictures of the new LDS temple there which is nearing completion. Brent returned the day after Christmas, and Jan flew home Saturday of last week. Mrs. Kathleen McOmbcr returned to Vernal to assist during the holiday shopping season at the Unique Shops International In-ternational where she was formerly employed as manager. Her husband, Arthur, came from Pocatello, Dec. 20 to spend the Christmas holiday here, and they returned home last weekend. Mr. Carey Christensen from Fnrm-ington, Fnrm-ington, Utah, has been a holiday visitor at the Larry Larsen home. Holiday visitors at the Doyle 1-andon home were Mr. and Mrs. Dean Uindon of Bountiful, Mr. and Mrs. Hon (Laraine) Nyman and 4 children of American Fork, and Mr. and Mrs. Ross Landon from Kearns. Guests at the Fred Washburn home during holidays were their son Jeffrey and his friend Frank Lyle Washington who are students at the U of U and Kllen McCusllen from Columbus, Ohio, who is n student at BYU. |
