Show 5 vehicle accidents reported by VPD Sgt. Chuck Hill, Vernal City Police Department, released details to five vehicle accidents since the first of the year totaling over $2,500 in damages. Harold Don Hacking, 19, was backing east in the parking lot of the Triangle Store, 895 West Main, and backed into the front of the store breaking a large glass door and bending the frame, Jan. 2. Total damages were listed at $1,000 and no citation was given. On Jan.3 Steven C. Thome, 29 of Salt Lake City was westbound on 250 and struck overhead power lines with an oversized load. Citation is pending and total damage is $550. January 3 a juvenile was eastbound on 100 South and passed through a stop sign striking Kirk L. Critton who was northbound on 500 West in a 1980 Plymouth. Damages to the Critton vehicle were $500 and to the juvenile's was $150. The juvenile was cited with failure to stop at a stop sign. Samuel G. Gurley was east bound on Main Jan. 4 and was attempting to pass on the right when he struck a Ford driven by Larry Rhodes, 42 on the right front then left the scene. Total damages . were listed at $550 and Furley was cited with leaving the scene. Another accident was reported in- volving a parked car receiving $250 in damages from another vehicle which left the scene. The car was parked at 20 North 1100 West. Crime statistics since Jan. 1 released by Sgt. Bob Downard include Harold Hacking, 19 who was charged with illegal consumption. The arresting officer contacted arrestee during a traffic stop at which time the officer noticed the arrestee in the rear seat of the vehicle. After investigating the situation, Hacking was placed under arrest. The Uteland Store, 206 West Main reported $25.48 stolen in gasoline and the day after, Jan. 6, the Metro Gas Station reported gasoline stolen. In the incident involving the Metro Station, two suspects entered the station, put $14 of gas into their vehicle and paid for half the amount. No one has been arrested for either incident. On Jan. 6 Mary Atwood reported that ' someone entered their home at 190 North 500 East and stole a 22 rifle valued at $25. No one has been arrested in connection with the burglary. Robert Miles Pike, 31 reported an unknown call, Jan. 7, which threatened him then hung up. The caller was unidentified. |
