Show FACTS&FANCES A baby who swims before be-fore she crawls may sail to a higher IQ, according to the surprising results of a recent studv. Is it pos s i b I e to raise your child's IQ? Yes, says a new study. Infants and toddlers who swim are brighter, have better powers of concentration, concentra-tion, are more intelligent, better coordinated and more self-assured. These were the findings of the West German Federal Ministry Minis-try of Education, based on tests administered over a number of years. Even babies as young as three months, says the Ministry, benefit from learning learn-ing to swim by becoming better coordinated and more self-assured. German child development develop-ment experts speculate that the measurable benefits from learning to swim are psychologically based. Becoming Be-coming a swimmer induces greater self-assurance and independence which, in turn, accelerates the learning learn-ing process. |
