Show Union A t Vernal Tops Sports Attraction; Buchesne To Tabby Basketball interest this week will be focused on the city of Vernal, where a battle is promised prom-ised for the sole possession of ' first place in the Uintah division of Region 5, when the Ute Red-'men Red-'men will host the Cougars from 'new Union High School in the I first meeting of these two teams on the basketball court. Whether they know any more than some of us out here about who'll win or lose at Vernal, the sportcasters in the state's capi-tol, capi-tol, who write for the dailies, have picked the Utes to take the measure of the Cougars and be the team to represent Uintah Basin in the prep classic next March. Perhaps on paper the boys out-west have something to substantiate their claims on. . . but it's a mighty slim margin. Teams both the Utes and Cou-! Cou-! gars have faced this season have fared in about the same manner. with a very very slim margin in favor of Vernal. This writer has not seen the Vernal team in action, so we are not going to make any prediction predic-tion as to the outcome Friday night so far as scores are concerned. con-cerned. However, we will predict pre-dict a sell-out crowd will see a spirited contest that will not be a walk-away for either team. Loss of Frank Snyder by Coach Allred could easily be the difference in the two teams. Not a top scorer, Frank was a steady defensive giant, and his absence will be felt on the bank-boards and his ability to keep a pretty close cover on an opponent. In Snyder's place Allred will probably prob-ably start John Jorgensen. a 6 ft. 2 in. lad, who played junior high ball at Price last year, and who was coming along swell until un-til the flu hit him before Christ-I Christ-I (Continued on Page Eight) |
