Show County Bicentennial Committees organized and actively engaged '""Mass distribution of an official calendar of Bicentennial events is planned by the Iron County Bicentennial Committee in the near future, it was announced by Mrs. Inez Cooper, committee chairman. Mrs. Cooper has announced March 15 as the deadline for listings to be placed on the calendar. This information should be sent to Bessie Dover, communications chairman for the county committee, at 375 South 900 West, Cedar City, or telephone to 586-8107. At a meeting of the Iron County Bicentennial workers held at Southern Utah State College on Feb. 21 Mrs. Cooper reported that all communities in the county are now organized for Bicentennial observances and are actively carrying out plans for programs and other activities during the year. Iron County has been officially designated as a Bicentennial County. Boardman heads the Paragonah committee. Summit is represented by Mary Dalley and Delos Dalton. Helen Jones directs activities of the Enoch committee. Kanarraville representative is Belle Davis. Escalante Valley has consolidated con-solidated its representation under Ruby Anderson of Beryl. Serving with her are Mr. and Mrs. Richard Thorley of Modena and Sterling Tullis of New Castle. Stan Forsythe is chairman of the Iron County Festival Activities Ac-tivities Committee. Members of this group include Sidney Hahne, Paul Radmall, Dr. David Lee, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Gerring, ' Forrest Hunter, Barbara Adams, Jean Hendrickson, Ruby Smith, Laurena Adams, Maudell Smith, Dee Jensen, and Dr. Steve Harmon all from Cedar City. '''... ...'. .... Parowan representatives on this committee are Richard Dotson, Marguerite Orton, and Yvonne "Chamberlain. A finance committee for the county has been discontinued due to funding already pledged for individual county projects. Members who have served on this committee are Francis Betenson, chairman, and Don Wheelwright, Eldon Schmutz, Dennis Agle, and David Conine. Mrs. Cooper said that county projects now funded include the Iron Mission Park, which has received $14,500 from the Utah Bicentennial Committee and a matching $14,500 from the Utah State Parks Board in addition to $2,500 given by the board to bring the total funding up to the bid for the work. Parowan has received $2,000 from UBC, which will be matched mat-ched by the community of Parowan, The Paragonah Town Hall and Museum project has been given $1,500 by the UBC. Paragonah will match these funds. The Manning-Halversen Oratorio Society has received $400 from the Iron County Bicentennial Committee to produce a special Bicentennial program tentatively scheduled for late April. Some proceeds have been received from the sale of Bicentennial medallions currently available at State Bank of Southern Utah, American Bank of Commerce, and First Security Bank, all in Cedar City. A number of major projects are planned in the county through the coming months, including the Independence and Pioneer Day celebrations in July, the Bicentennial observance ob-servance of the Dominquez-Escalante Dominquez-Escalante Expedition on Oct. 11 and 12, and the commemoration of Cedar City's 125th anniversary on Nov. 11. Norman Forbush is chairman of the October activity. A. T. Challis will direct the Cedar City birthday celebration. Working closely with the county and community Bicentennial Bicen-tennial committees is Dr. Morris Shirts, representing Iron, Washington, Beaver, Kane, and Garfield Counties on the state Bicentennial committee. Mrs. Cooper, as Iron County Bicentennial chairman, is assisted by Ruth Challis, telephone secretary, and Connie Nyman, corresponding secretary. The county Communications Com-munications Committee includes Mrs. Dover, Sue Southwick, Janet Weaver, Art Challis, Becky Van Dyke, and Ellen Lunceford. Dr. Joseph Felix and Michael Bawden are co-chairmen for the Cedar City Bicentennial Committee, Com-mittee, which has been active for more than a year and has sponsored a number of meetings to stimulate Bicentennial activities. ac-tivities. Members of this committee com-mittee include Nellie Flanigan, secretary, Mr. and Mrs. S. V. Jardine, Bessie Dover, Doug Bonzo. Hal Campbell, Kent Bishop, Reverend William Borgman, Jack Whiting, Carolyn Warby, David Felix, and Steven Hunter. Dr. Eugene Woolf heads a committee at SUSC which has conducted a monthly program since the beginning of the current school year His committee is comprised of Mary Lunt, secretary, A. T. Challis, Inez Cooper, Dr. Sterling Church, Dennis Agle, Dr. Richard Thompson, Fred Adams, Dr. Blaine Johnson, Dr. Kent Myers, and Thomas Leek. Cedar City High School recently observed a full week of Bicentennial activities under the direction of David Felix and Steven Hunter. Cedar West Stake presented a printed program of activities for the year to its membership last July and will complete its official schedule this coming July.
