Show Cedar Leader Attends 4-H Conference In Pacific Grove, Calif. The Asilomar Convention Center Cen-ter in Pacific Grove, California, was headquarters for the Western States Regional 4-H Forum held March 7 through 9. Attending the confab were 12 representatives representa-tives from Utah including Mrs. Winnona Cowan. Mrs. Cowan, who is a 4-H leader and board member from Iron County, and two other ladies who were from Garfield and Millard Counties were the only three representatives representa-tives of the southern part of the state. . With a theme of "Citizenship and Youth," leaders from the western United States met in small groups and buzz sessions to discuss such topics as the deeper meanings of citizenship which call for respect for all people in a society, and to unify suggestions on how to encourage more leaders in 4-H. Mrs. Cowan presented what she calls "The On the Job Training Program" which is to stimulate leadership ability. With her plan, one leader who is acquainted with the program will oversee teachers who are working with several groups of 25 new members. Each year the leader would be responsible for training the teachers and taking care of the details and mechanics mechan-ics of 4-H work. The program is a modified version of the 'Community 'Com-munity 4-H Club" which is popular pop-ular in California. Before Mrs. Cowan returned to Utah she visited in San Francisco Francis-co with Mrs. Henretta Jones Harris, Har-ris, a daughter of Henry L. Jones. |
