Show Harvest Report Shows 88,030 Deer Taken By 171,460 Hunters in Utah During 1965 conditions for deer during the winter and provided a needed boost for range conditions in many areas. Spring studies are now under way and reeomendations for l'JtHJ hunts from the Department of Kisli and Game fieldmen will: again bo based on the inormation gathered, ether the reommenda-tions reommenda-tions are for either sex regular season hunts, short seasons, or for buck only hunts. Sportsmen who are sincerely interested in gaining knowledge or deer and Utah's managemnt program should take advantage of opportunities to participate m the spring range studies now under un-der way. Harvest figures for Utah's deer hunt have been released by the Department of Fish and Game. I Total harvest for the past sea-1 son was 88,030 deer. This total i includes 10,305 animals taken on special permits and 1,675 taken during archery season. There were 171,-lGO hunters in the field ! after deer last year. I Hunter success on the regular j license was 44',-o. Harvest ligure show 67 Vo of deer killed on the regular license were bucks, 33'. were anterless deer. Utah's harvest, along with every ev-ery other western state, was below be-low the previous year's harvest. This similarity of a depressed harvest in the entire West points to considering many factors other than a lack of deer as being responsible re-sponsible for the reduced harvest har-vest for 1965. While the overabundant mois-1 ture conditions of the past year had an adverse ailed on deer hunting, it did provide good food j |
