Show I Sen. Bennett Supports Improved Air Service for Cedar City WASHINGTON-SEN. Wallace F. Bennett, R-Utah, has called for a "major speed-up" in the approval of improved local airline service for Cedar City and other Utah airports. "Improved service will add considerable to the economic well-being of many areas in Southern Utah," Sen- Bennett told a hearing of the Aviation Subcommittee of the Senate Commerce Committee which Is conducting a study of the problem in U.S. cities. "For years the people in and around Cedar City have experienced exper-ienced inadequate air service. This has now reached the point where furture economic expansion expan-sion will be slowed down should the route improvements now pending before the Civil Aerona-tics Aerona-tics Board be denied," he said. He said, "Bonanza Airlines has proposed to schedule an F-27 flight between Salt ake City-Cedar City-Las Vegas and Phoenix. It has also proposed one DC-9 round trip between Salt Lake City-Las Vegas and Los Angeles," he said. "The effect of this service ser-vice will be to tie Cedar City into four very important areas of the West Salt Lake City, Phoenix, Phoe-nix, Las Vegas and Los Angeles." He said "Residents of the southern part of Utah could then have direct air service to these major industrial, economic and tourist areas." Sen. Bennett said "Cedar City has the facilities. It has the people. peo-ple. The boardings are available. Bonanza, the State and the citizens citi-zens believe that Cedaar City has demonstrated its potential. All that is needed now is a decision to permit this service to come to Cedar City." |
