Show Cedar City Council Considers Varied Agenda; Deny Franchise Application I J A varied agenda confronted J members of the Cedar City Coun cil at their regular meeting Thursday, March 17: I Petrolane Utah Gas entered an application for a franchise to pipe propane throughout the city that could be converted to natural natur-al gas when it becomes available. avail-able. Council took no action and indicated that more information and more study was necessary. The Council also adopted and forwarded a resolution to the State of Utah requesting that laboratory la-boratory facilities at the Valley View Medical Cener be reinstated to serve Cedar City and the surrounding sur-rounding area. Among the needs pertinent to the city includes such items as blood testing for food handlers permits and for marriage licenses, the Mayor pointed out. Meeting with the council was Mr. Frier, vice president of the Coleman Co., who asked that the city make every effort to encourage encour-age natural gas being brought into the area. Frier pointed out the importance of natural gas to Coleman's operation here and to other industrial activities of the Area. time in keeping with the policy of city and county employees. On recommendation of the Safety Committee and the School District the city agreed to disallow disal-low parking on the East side of GOO West Street from 200 North, north afronting the property of the North Elementary School. The action was taken to relieve a traffic safety problem near the school. Several items in connection with improvements at the Painted Paint-ed Hills Golf Course were also approved ap-proved by the council. They authorized auth-orized the erection of a fence on the South and West sides of the course, the construction of several sand traps to beautify and improve im-prove the course and the installation installa-tion of water fountains in addition addi-tion to a series of other minor improvements. Money for the improvements im-provements will be borrowed, according ac-cording to Mayor Loren Whetten, from the perpetual care fund at the Cedar City Cemetery. The fund will then be reimbursed as i money becomes available, speci-I speci-I fically from the golf course. A public hearing to consider re-zoning re-zoning of an area near 1200 West Street and 200 North from Residential Resi-dential 2 to Residential 3 was held. No action was taken by the council following the hearing. The resignation of Ralph Han-zon Han-zon as houseman at the Cedar City Fire Station was accepted by the council and David Bentley was appointed to fill the vacancy with the resignation and appointment appoint-ment to be effective April 1 In cooperation with Iron County Coun-ty the Council also approved the hiring of a part time man to assist as-sist as jailer at the city and county building, allowing a 40-hour 40-hour week for the present jailer and to allow regular vacation |
