Show Skilled Construction Workers Offered Seabees Opportunity The Navy has annoueed a new program allowing qualified men .skilled In construction trades to enlist In the Navy Seabees at advanced ad-vanced pay grades. This means higher pay, more privileges and other benefits. For example, a journeyman carpenter with three years experience, ex-perience, If otherwise qualified, could be enlisted directly as a second class petty officer, pay grade K-5 (a recruit enters the service at pay grade E-l). Seabees are the Navy's over-seeas over-seeas construction teams. The need for more seabees has grown rapidly as the need for more airfields, air-fields, harbors and other construction con-struction work in Vietnam has expanded. Tills "(Inert rating" program is similar to the one used in, World War II. It allows a man skilled in the building trades, heavy equipment operation, mechanics, me-chanics, engineering, and steel working to continue working at his trade and to fulfill his military mili-tary obligation at the same time. In addition it recognizes a man's exi'ting skill by enabling him to enlist in a senior pay grade. Dependiing on experience, enlistments enlist-ments can be, effected as first, second and third class petty officers. of-ficers. The age limit for this program pro-gram extends to 40 years.
