Show District Foresters Spend Week In Special Sessions District forest rangers and assistant as-sistant rangers converged on Cedar Ce-dar City for the week of April 11 to 15 for their annual ranger's meeting. The meeting was conducted by Supervisor Howard Foulger and forest staff officers to plan and organize work programs pro-grams for the coming fiscal year. Supervisor Foulger told the group that the coming season promises to be a record year for the forest In multiple use resource re-source management Timber will be sold and cut In excess of 25 million board feet to provide sawlogs for an expanding lumber lum-ber Industry In southern Utah. Thirty-five thousand 3-year old trees will be planted as part of timber stand Improvement program. pro-gram. The supervisor also told of plans for expansion of camp ground facilities at Pangultch Lake. Duck Creek and at Pine Valley and for the operation of some 17 camp and picnic areas In 1960. recreation visitors to the Dixie Forest have been Increasing 15 to 20 annually for the past several years. A possible 600,000 visitors to the forest in 1960 Is anticipated. Staff Officer Wayne Cloward discussed with the rangers a stepped up -program for watershed water-shed restoration work. He explained ex-plained that because of the increased in-creased demand for clear usable water there Is urgent need to Improve the forest watersheds, reseedlng, contour terracing, pitting pit-ting and gully stabilization plans are being made to restore depleted watersheds. Work Is also being planned In cooperation with livestock permittees, per-mittees, Mr. Cloward said, to lm-j prove forage on Important grazing graz-ing allotments through deferred systems of grazing, and also by construction of more water developments, de-velopments, fences and In a number of cases by reseeding good forage plants.
