Show Tvro Cedar Men Honored For Scout Work ; Once each year, the local scout -councils of America are author-lied author-lied by the National council to nominate Individuals who have done outstanding work In Scout- Ing and have performed distlng- uished service to boyhood, for, ihe Silver Beaver award. This I award 1 Is ' never sought, ' and , comes without solicitation to; - thorn who are .chosen. .The Silver Sil-ver Beaver award Is the highest recognition given to a scouter on a council basis for his support and work in the Scouting pro-.gram. pro-.gram. The Beaver signifies le individual's always being on the move and giving freely and unselfishly of his time and talents tal-ents to seeing that Scouting becomes be-comes and stays an active part and an accepted part of the community com-munity life- The numbor of awards to be made Is based on the number of units In each local ' council. This year the Utah National Parks Council has given 13 nominations. nom-inations. These 13 men were selected se-lected from ove 100 nominees by a special SUver Beaver com-mittfc, com-mittfc, which is appointed each year by the council president, VT. W. Clyde of Springvtiio. Two of these outstanding Scouters were selected from the Cedar Breaks district of the Boy Scouts of America, both of Cedar City, R. Smoot Seaman and New-el New-el F. Wasden. , . Besides these outstanding achievements Smoot has labored faithfully to see that Scouting became a part of the I lives of the young men in this I community. He has been a district dist-rict chairman for over six years and has been responsible for raising the finance in the Cedar Breaks district for Scouting. Through his ability as a salesman, sales-man, he has made an ever increasing in-creasing number of friends for scouting, and has always been successful - in getting the fair share of ihe council budget in the district of Cedar Breaks. He is a respected citizen and businessman, busi-nessman, and a credit to the scout organization. Newel B. Wasden is district chairman and credit manager for Bradshaw Chevrolet Company, a Sunday School teacher, Sunday School superintendent, Stake YMMIA counselor, Stake superintendent superin-tendent YMMIA, ward bishopric, Master M-Man 1957, counselor in the High Priests quorum, California Cal-ifornia Mission, stake high council, coun-cil, past Rotarlan. Newel is now a veteran of 16 years of service to Scouting, during dur-ing which time he has held almost al-most every position in scouting. An effective commissioner, troop committeeman, and a district chairman, Mr. Wasden has always al-ways been in attendance at district dis-trict and council camps and other oth-er activities where he has taken part in effective leadership and Insertion of scouts. He is a devoted church man and community commu-nity leader, and always uses his Influence to further the cause of boyhood. |
