Show Visiting Educators, UEA Officers, See Schools I Jr. High Report ' " ; .Thursday of last week the Cedar Ce-dar City Jr. High School was honored by a visit from two special spe-cial guests, Mr. Bob Simpson, president of the Utah Education association, and Car Young, head of the UEA locals association. associa-tion. Mr. Young Is also principal of the Weber Jr. High School and Mr. Simpson is a regular teacher In the Davis Jr. High School. They spent the morning visiting vis-iting classes and were particularly particular-ly interested in the project type of teaching going on . at the school. The PTA was carrying on its Wednesday visits by the parents and the guests Joined with them In their observation of classes. Mr. Simpson and Mr. Young were high in their praises of the PTA project of parents visit days. They remembered that they would like to try It In their schools. They felt It was the best thing they had seen in bringing the parents and school closer together. to-gether. Considerable Interest was also shown In the special interest classes. The Business Math class, with La Veil Chamberlain as advisor, appeared to be the high-light of their visit. These students along with their study of business forms and regulations are in charge of the school store, the bank and the savings stamps and bond project Under . the direction of their advisor they buy and sell, solicit for bank savings and sale of stamps, keep accounts and audit their own books and accounts. ac-counts. While they are engaging in this special activity others are exploring many other areas of interest to them. The visitors expressed a deep interest in this 4 learn to do by doing" type of teaching. They remarked that it was the real basis of good Junior high philosophy. |
