Show WHAT DOES THE. BIBLE TEACH? OTHER PROPHECIES OF CHRIST By Bob Reynold In last week's article we noticed some of the prophecies of Christ those that referred mainly to His birth. This week we will notice many of the other prophecies that were made about Him. His reign as the annointed of God is proclaimed in Psalm 2. Jeremiah in speaking of Him said, "A King shall reign and prosper, and shall execute judgement and justice hi the earth" (Jeremiah 235). . In referring to Christ and His kingdom Isaiah said, "For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulders: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, the mighty God, The everlasting Fattier, the Prince of Peace" (Isaiah 9:6) In speaking of the vork or mission of Christ Isaiah said, "The Spirit of the Lord God Is upon me; because the Lord hath annointed metO preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the broken-hearted, to proclaim pro-claim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound" (Isaiah 61:1). .' There are numerous prophesies concerning the trial and death of Christ. In Zechariah 11:12 it was prophesied that Christ would be sold for '.'thirty pieces of silver." ' In Psalm 22:1 we find the following words, "My God, My God, why hast thou forsaken me?" In Psalm 22:18 we rend, "They part my garments among them, and cast lots upon my vesture." These words are found in Psalm 69:21. "They gave me also gall for my meat; and in my thirst they gave me vinegar vine-gar to drink." We recognize all these prophecies as being fulfilled during the crucifixion of Christ. . It would be profitable for all of our readers to read and .study the entire 53rd chapter of Isaiah to notice the many prophecies of the suffering of Christ We could go on and on enumerating prophecy after prophecy pro-phecy with their subsequent fulfillment. What is the significance sig-nificance of the amazing correspondence between these prophecies and their fulfillment? First, they prove the inspiration of the Bible. Second, they show that the New Testament cannot be completely understood without knowledge of the Old Testament, and vice versa. Third, they prove that Jesus is the Christ.
