Show Anderson, Talbot Aid CSUThinclads To Third Place Honor Gary Anderson and Gerald Talbot finished first and second in the 100 yard and 220 yard sprinting events at this Mesa Junior College Invitational meet to lead the Broncos to third place honors. Anderson's two first places were the only ones garnered by the College of Southern Utah squad., but they picked up five seconds, three thirds, a fourth and a tie for fourth and two fifth places, according to Coach Bruce I Osborne. Anderson in the trial heats ran the century in 9.8 seconds for one of the best If not the best performance of the day. In the finals fi-nals his time was 9.9 seconds in the hundred and 23.8 In the 220 yard dash. Bad weather hampered nearly every event, Coach Osborne In-I In-I dicated, with a strong wind mak-ling mak-ling it extremely cold as well. Team championship of the Invitational In-vitational meet went to Pueblo Junior College of Colorado which compiled 83 points; host Mesa captured second place with 63 H and CSU was in third with 44 followed by Weber College with 42. In addition to his two first places Anderson anchored both of the CSU relay teams and both teams placed second behind Pueblo. Pue-blo. The 880 yard relay team was composed of Talbot Hind-ley, Hind-ley, Wayne Heaton and Anderson. Ander-son. Members of the mile relay team were Dale McCormick, Wayne Smith, Duayna Jackson Gary Matheson added another j?"ond place In the Javelin throw and he also captured thTlrd ir the discus and fifth in the shot put to lead the Broncos in the field events. Bob Bishop captured third in the broad jump for the broncos and added a fifth in the high Jump. Dale McCormick finished third in the 440, Wayne Heaton tied for fourth In the pole vault and Duane Jackson took fourth in the 880 yard run. Only two events in which the Broncos failed to score were the lmlle and two-mile races. |
