Show Bronco Baseball Nine Wins Three. Drops One in ICA Conference Opener In a four-game week end slate the College of Southern Utah Bronco baseball squad came out with a three win and one loss record to open play In the southern south-ern division of the Intermountaln Collegiate Athletic Conference. Thursday afternoon the Broncos Bron-cos handed Snow College two losses, posting a 12 to 1 victory over the Badgers In the opener behind the two hit pitching of VaL Lab rum. In the second game of the double header the Broncos scored a 4 to 1 victory with How-ard How-ard Roberts taking the win for the Broncos. Friday afternoon the Broncos split a double header with the Carbon Eagles, defending ICAC champions. The opener was lost 2 io 0 arid iiihouh Gary Anderson An-derson allowed only three hits to the Eagles they capitalized on an error to score in the seventh frame to win the pitching duel. In the second game Carbon went out in front by a 5 to 1 score only to have the Broncos bounce back with four In the third and one in the fourth to win 6 to 5. Both clubs collected six hits and Larry Smith was credited with the win from the Broncos. CSO 12. Snow 1 Labrum's two hit victory over the Badgers included 10 strikeouts strike-outs for the right hander. Leading Lead-ing hitter In the 13 to 1 win was Erie Gardner, who homered and doubled for a three for four record rec-ord at the plate. Neal Petty also hit three for four including a double. All - in all the Broncos collected 13 hits In racking up the 13 runs. CSU 4. Snow 1 Roberts found himself In constant con-stant trouble throughout the second sec-ond game but managed to hold down the Badgers In the tough spots. Snow left 11 men on base In the game and they collected seven hits to the Broncos's four, although the Broncos won 4 to 1. The first four innings of play were scoreless. Dean Conant, CSU first baseman, broke up the. 0-0 deadlock with a home run over the center field fence. The blow seemed to shake Davis, the Snow pitcher, and two more hits, a balk by Davis and an eiror netted net-ted the Broncos three more runs. The hits were by Gerald Talbot and Petty. Carbon 2, CSU 0 A strong pitching duel between CSU's Anderson and Hoskins of Carbon was not broken up until un-til the seventh inning when an error and one of three hits paid off for the Eagles In two runs and a 2 to 0 victory. Anc'erson- allowed only three hits and lefr seven at the plate on strikeouts. Hoskins In winning win-ning allowed flve hits, two to Klnley Gleave, and two extra base hits, but struck out 11 Broncos Bron-cos In the seven Inning stints. Carbon S In the second game with Smith on the mound for the Broncos CSU took an early lead with a single run In the first frame. It was short lived, however, as Carbon Car-bon bounced back with three hits In the top of the seventh and five njr3 had scored. Two doubles were Included In the spree, one each by Peterson and Fox. In the bottom of the third Smith aided his own winning cause by leading off with a triple. tri-ple. Travis Nelson walked and Petty slammed out a double to score two runs, a single by Gleave scored Petty and Conant doubled to send Gleave home with the tying run. It was not until the fourth that the Broncos took the lead with BUI Child leading off with a walk and scoring on a single by Nelson following a sacrifice by Smith, to put him in scoring position. po-sition.
