JONES i Funeral services were conducted conduct-ed In the Cedar Third Ward chapel cha-pel Monday for Thomas Willard I Jones, 7!), Newcastle, prominent leader in southern Utah, who succumbed at the Iron Coumy Hospital on Thursday, Feb. 20, following a lingering illness. Services were under the direction direc-tion of Bishop Melvin Hulet of the Newcastle LDS Ward. Prayer at the mortuary prior to the services was by Henry Jones. Include and postlude music was played by Mrs. Bernella Jones. Invocation was by Harry Lunt. Speakers Included William II. Manning. Parley Dalley, Arthur Barlocker and Mrs. Gordon Moyle who also read a tribute to the deceased. Remarks werC g:vc 3jr" Bishop Hulct. Musical numbers Included a number by the Tradesmen, Ce- dar City quartet, and a vocal solo, "Riding Down the Canyon," by a son, Robert Jones. Benediction was by F. A. Thor-ley Thor-ley and the dedicatory prayer at the Cedar City cemetery was rendered ren-dered by Samuel F. Leigh. ! Mr. Jones was horn Dee. 5.! 1S7S, in Cedar City, a son of Lehi Willard and Henrietta Lunt Jones. He married Sophia V.. Foi-i syth June 2.', 1902 in the St. George LDS Temple. Mrs. Jones idled in November. 1M7. i I He is survived by three sons' and a daughter: Richard and I'riah, Newcastle; Robert S., Van jNuys. Calif, ,-md Mrs. Gwendolyn! Banks. Las Vegas, Nev.; seven i grandchildren and four Treat-' grandchildren; five broth - . and! two sisters including Kumen L.. Henry L.. Lehi M.. Krastus L., William L. Jones and Mrs. Ann Gardner, all of Cedar Citv, and Mrs. Henrietta Hintze, Salt Lake City. Mr. Jones was a member r f the LDS Church and had fulfilled fulfil-led a mission to Germany from 181)7 to 1900. From 1909 until 1917. ho was manager of the Newcastle Recla-mation Recla-mation project. In the Esealante Valley nrea he built up farming lands and livestock and was one of the promoters of the vast pump well operations now In the valley. He graduated from the University Univer-sity of Utah where he received a degree In chemical engineer ing. He was employed for a number of years as an cnclneer with the American Consolidated Smelting and Refining Co. In Bingham. In addition to his studies stu-dies at U of U he also attended Brlgham Young University at Provo and for a time was a member of the faculty of the Branch Normal School In Cedar City, now the College of Southern South-ern Utah. |
