Show Itlinersville Gamers Region Title Mlnerivllle . Ward walked off with the Region basketball championship in the M-Men bracket Wednesday evening with a double-overtime victory over the Ced. T Sixth Ward, 55 to 53 in a thrl.ll packed contest. I It was a hard fought victory! for Minersville who in both of its games was forced into overtime before eking out its victories. In the opening round of play they defeated the Cedar First 60 to 58 In an overtime game the only two overtime contests of the six-team tournament. Cedar First Ward took consolation conso-lation honors in a 53 to 37 win over Milford Wednesday evening. Milford was defeated by the Sixth in the opening round of play, edged out Cedar Fourth in the second round of play 53 to 46 to get Into the consolation ' championship game. Wayne Gilllns paced the Minersville Min-ersville crew. Trailing throughout through-out the contest he gave his team i its first lead with only two minutes min-utes and 44 seconds left in the regulation play, 35 to 34. It was then that the battle was really on. Gordon Slack of the Sixth j I Ward got the lead back for. Cedar Ce-dar with two foul ahoU and Gilllns again scored free; the field for a 37 to 36 lead. Don Marshall of the Sixth hit two fouls, and added a technical from the foul line and Gordon Bauer hit another field goal to put the Sixth into a 41 to 37 lead with Just a minute and a half left on the clock. Minersville bounced back, however, with Gillins hitting another an-other field goal, adding three -fouls and Ted Myers adding another an-other to Jump Into a 43 to 41 lead. With only 15 second left Gordon Slack of the Sixth scored scor-ed from the field to even it up at 43-all. One of the real heros of the game was Eyre of Minersville who tied it up at 49 all at the end of the first overtime period with a desperation, lunging dive for the basket Just as the whistle whis-tle blew. The bucket gave the Minersville crew a chanci to move into the second overtime where they edged out the' Cedar ward with field goals by T. Myers, My-ers, Baker, Gilllns and two foul pitches by Eyre. Both Minersville and Cedar Sixth will advance to the Division Divi-sion M-Men tournament to be held at Enterprise Mar. 6, 7 and 8. Winner of the division event will advance to the All-Church finals in Provo later in the month.
