Show Menotti Opera Produced by CSU Music Dept. The American composer, Gian-Carlo Gian-Carlo Menotti, will be featured Mar. 20 and 21 by the College of Southern Uluii music department depart-ment Mr. Menotti's "Amahl and the Night Visitors" will be played play-ed both nights as part of an evening eve-ning of modern one-act operas. The title role will be played day, Mar. 20. Yvonne Leigh, Cedar Ce-dar City, will sing the part on Friday, Mar. 21. Sharon Corry, Cedar City, will sing the major role of the mother. Kaspcr, one of the three kings, will be sung by John Mackerell, Beaver; Melchoir another of the kings, will be sung by Roland Hinton, Hurricane. Marlon Steele. Delta, will sing the part of the Nubian King. Balthazar. The Page is performed by Kay George of Kanosh. The story of Amnhl, the little eripped shepperd boy. Is one of deep sentimentality and sweetness. sweet-ness. The three kings arrive at the desert cottage of the widow and her son, Amahl. They ask for shelter and a place to rest for a few hours. When the mother moth-er sees the riches the kings carry car-ry for the child they seek, she is tempted. With this richness she could buy medical attention and help for Amahl. She tries to steal, la caught and forgiven. However, both the mother and Amahl want to send a gift to the child. The only gift Amah! has to give results In a most sat isfying and warm ending. Dr. and Mrs. Blaine Ji '.inson are directing the production. Sharon Corry is student director. Daryl Schramm, Beaver, is assisting as-sisting In lighting and staging. A costume opera "Amahl and the Night Visitors" offers a show of warm and unusual entertainment. entertain-ment.
