Elks Rulers posted a 5 to 4 win over Kiwanis early this week to move Into the top spot, but they still have a rough go to remain re-main in first place. Milne Is only one-half game behind and a tell-tale game between Elks and Milne this, evening, Thursday, will throw a different light on the picture. A win for Elks In this contest will give them the first half championship. The Elks club posted another Important victory during the week over Columbia Iron Mines with Robert Rosenberg pitching a one-hit, shutout against the miners to win 1 to 0. Elks collected col-lected only five scattered hits In the game which developed Into a real pitching dual. Fred Esplin was on the mound for Columbia. Elks pushed in the only tally of the game In the first Inning of play. Ricahrd Bauer singled and was cut off at the plate. Danny Jones finally scored in the frame following a single, however, his score was unearned, coming on a passed ball. Ralph Fetty collected the only hit for Columbia and that was nearly an out in a tight play ct first base. That's how close the game was to a perfect performance perform-ance for Rosenberg. Danny Jones was the winning pitcher for Elks over Kiwanis. Elks collected three hits added to two walks In the second frame to push over three runs in the big inning. Elks collected 10 hits, Kiwanis got eight. David Grim-shaw Grim-shaw was the losing pitcher. Thursday evening Milne posted post-ed a 13 to 4 win over Kiwanis in their only appearance during the week. Ronnie Anderson was on the mound for the truckers and he allowed ony four hits. A collection col-lection of five hits in the fourth inning pushed in five tallies to give Milne a decisive edge In the game. Klwanis was charged with eight errors in the contest. Columbia stayed in the race after losing to Elks by scoring a 7 to 2 victory over Lions Wednesday Wednes-day evening. Wynn Isom was the winning pitcher but he had relief re-lief from Kim Leigh in the fifth inning. Jeff Cowan was charged with the loss. Leigh, Fetty and Leslie Jones each collected doubles for Columbia to drive in extra runs. In other games of the week Rotary got an 11 to 8 victory out of the fire with three runs In the final Inning of play to defeat the Lion Tamers. Lions outhit Rotary 10 to 9. Mike Carr was the losing pitcher. He blasted the only home run of the game in the sixth inning in-ning with no one on base. Hamilton Ham-ilton Benson was the top hitter of the game with three hits In four official times at bat. Kiwanis posted a single victory in three games this week. The victory was at the expense of Lions, 8 to 6, and it was the second game of the week that the Tamers lost although they outhit their opponents. Lions had 10 hits compared to 8 for Kiwanis. Ki-wanis. Milton Stuck! was the winner after relieving Bryan Bulloch. Paul Iverson was the loser. First half of play will end Saturday Sat-urday and the second half will resume on Monday evening. Games are played every day at 5:30 p. m. Monday through Saturday. |
