Show U Summer Festival To Open With Fabulous "Carousel" The show and the star that have won the hearts of international interna-tional audiences at the Brussels world's fair will appear in July In the University of Utah's starlit star-lit stadium bowl. The show, of course, is the Rodgers and Hammerstein hit, "Carousel," first of the University's Universi-ty's 1958 Summer Festival productions. pro-ductions. And the star is Broadway's David Da-vid Atkinson, hand-picked by Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein Ham-merstein fur the Billy Bigelow role he has played In the United Unit-ed States' production of "Carousel" "Carou-sel" at the Brussels fair. Carousel will open In the Stadium Stad-ium July 5 in the first of seven performances. It will be repeated July 7 through 12. The Summer Festival production produc-tion director, Dr. C. Lowell Lees, and the musical director, Utah Symphony Conductor Maurice Abravanel, said Mr. Atkinson's Utah appearance as Summer Festival's Billy Bigelow will be his first role upon his triumphal return from Europe. The show will co-star Broadway's Broad-way's Betty Oakes as Julie Jordan, Jor-dan, supported by a distinguished disting-uished cast of lntermountain artists, ar-tists, the Utah Symphony and the University Theater Ballet company. |
