Show Fire Destroys Homo ' Of Tom Hollands In Escalante Valley Fire razed the home of Mr. and Mrs, Tom Holland in the Escalante Escal-ante Valley Saturday evening burning the cinder block structure struc-ture to the ground and taking with It all of the personal ami household belongings of the longtime long-time valley residents. The fire was discovered by Mr. Wertz 1 the late afternoon. He witnessed heavy smoke from the chimney and investigated. Upon arriving at the home he stated that smoke was pouring from all of the windows and dors, mak lng it impossible to enter. Later a window broke and the flames broke out to completely destroy the home in a matter ol minutes. The Hollands had been at their home at noon Saturday but Mrs. Holland had left to work as a potato sorter and Mr. Holland had traveled to Cedar City to attend at-tend to business matters. The only items saved from the home was a washing machine, a set of tubs and a metal chair that were on a rear porch of the home. The only personal belongings salvaged were the clothing that the Hollands were wearing. Total loss was not established but many of the family belongings, belong-ings, such as pictures and souvenirs, sou-venirs, were irreplaceable. The Hollands own a home in JJcwcastle which was used as a deer camp this fall. However, none of the family's belongings had been moved to the Newcastle home. The fire department in the Escalante Es-calante Valley was summoned but the blaze wus too lar alon to curb or save the building anci hi, contents. The home was a single story, two bedroom home that had been constructed by the Hollands over a 17-year period. |
