Show Expanded Holiday Telephone Service Set ; I housands of men and women are preparing the nation's telephone tele-phone network to handle the large volume of long distance calls that have become a part of the Amerian Chirstmas Day tradition. On Christmas day extra ex-tra telephone operators will be on duty in Cedar City to facilitate facili-tate the handling of the increased increas-ed call volume. The call patterns of the nation change at Christmas time, according ac-cording to G. T. Godfrey, manager man-ager of the telephone company. Normally on other days the greatest number of long distance calls are completed between large cities and account for most of tho average day to day distance dis-tance usage. During ihnstmas, these calls drop to a minimum and messages mes-sages from one small community communi-ty to another crowd the circuits. Countless towns across the nation na-tion which generally handle a few long distance calls a day are flooded with calls between friends and families on Christmas. Christ-mas. To avoid delay in completing calls this Holiday Season Mr. Godfrey suggested that telephone tele-phone users take advantage of the long reduced rate period prevailing pre-vailing this year. Holiday rates begin Saturday evening, Dec. 23, at 6:(X) p. m. and will continue until 4:30 a. m. Tuesday, Dec. 26. By placing calls Saturday evening even-ing or early Sunday morning circuits cir-cuits will not be as crowded and calls will go through faster. "If the correct number and area code of the person being called is given to the operator greetings will go through faster," Godfrey said. |
