Show Education Board Acts on Routine Business The Board of Education in Its regular meeting Monday spent much time considering and finally final-ly adopting a new salary schedule sched-ule for all teachers in the Iron County school system. However, time was also devoted to a number num-ber of routine business matters, and action taken on them. Superintendent Ianthus Wright was authorized to obtain plans and detailed information on the Installation of a sprinkling system sys-tem at the Cedar City East elementary ele-mentary school, and to call for bids on the installation. The project pro-ject will be rushed as much as possible, Mr. Wright states, so that lawns at the school may be planted early enough in the summer sum-mer to obtain sufficient growth 'to avoid serious damage from I use after "school opens in Sep-' Sep-' tember. The board also approved sending send-ing a representative from the local lo-cal school system to attend a Utah School of Alcohol Studies to be conducted at the University of Utah on June 14 to 21. The rep resentative, not yet selected irom the teaching staff, will be expected ex-pected to carry factual information informa-tion on the subject back to the remainder of the teaching staff, after the close of the school. No action was taken by the board in selecting the teacher to represent repre-sent the county at the conference. A request from the Cedar City high school graduating class for approval of a class project was received and accepted. The students stu-dents asked for permission ' to build an additional tennis court on the school campus as a gift to the school from the class. The b-ard accepted the project as one very worthwhile and authorized the students to proceed immediately. immed-iately. A 1939 model school bus that 'equired replacement was c"'d by the board to Claude E. Hal-sell Hal-sell for $175, and autuorkoti.:i,ii given for the purchase of a new bus. Bids for furnishing the new bus will be called for in the near future, probably in the next issue is-sue of the Iron County Record. Authorization was also given for the clerk to Issue a call for bids for furnishing coal for all the school heating plants during the next school year. |
