Show Activities Assn. Stops School Helldorado'Trek The members of the Cedar City high school band were bitterly disappointed this week when the Board of Directors of the Utah High School Activities Association Associa-tion ruled that the band could not make a contemplated trip to Las Vegas. The band members were training train-ing hard in preparation for participation par-ticipation in the Helldorado parade par-ade at Las Vegas Sunday, May 17, and were naturally terribly disappointed when they were told that the trip must be cancelled. can-celled. The group had previously been granted permission by the Iron County Board of Education to make the trip, and had planned plan-ned to participate in the Sunday parade only so as not to be away from home more- than one day and not to miss any school. The band was to have been supported by the Cedar City Chamber of Commerce with the students representing the city in an inter-community relations gesture toward Las Vegas by the Cedar City organization. The Milford high school band was in the same position as the Cedar City group, having planned plan-ned to enter the Sunday parade, and being refused permissiion by the Utah High School Activities Association. However, we understand under-stand that the Milford group will make the trip anyway, participating partici-pating under the name of a Milford Mil-ford City band. We also understand that the Dixie college band, which is comprised com-prised of both college and St. George high school students, will participate in the Thursday parade. par-ade. However, the activities association asso-ciation apparently tx)k no exception ex-ception to the St. George high school students making the trip to Las Vegas in spite of the fact that they will miss at least one day of school. - |
