Show LETTERS TO THE EDITOR The Editor Iron County Record Cedar City, Utah Dear Editor: We would like to submit the following for publication in your paper: BULLETS VS. BILLS Nothing is too good for Utah veterans and that's just about what Utah laws provide. Utah's only veterans' laws are: renewal of drivers' licenses without examination ex-amination within one year after dischaige for Korean veterans, property tax exemptions for veterans vet-erans 25 or more disabled, free recording of discharge papers. Kind gestures, really. The recent Legislature brought forth bills to change vinegar labels, to raise money for pony express monuments, etc. But a bill to place all state employees employ-ees undo a civil service system comparable to that of 44 other states, giving veterans an equal opportunity in employment with those who remained home died in the House sifting committee. Another bill proposing income tax exemption for Korean veterans veter-ans similar to that allowed W. W. II servicemen was tabled in the Senate no action taken. Are Utah veterans not as worthy wor-thy of the small privileges which would have been granted by the two laws mentioned above as veterans in 44 other states? Veterans of W. W. I and II are already forgotten and men serv- ing under wartime conditions at present can't seem to merit consideration, con-sideration, perhaps becaus this is a "police action"? Bullets today are as deadly as those in Meuse, Argonne, Anzio, Saipan and oth-j er battle areas. Very truly, Wm. J. Higbee, chairman United veteran's Council |
