Show Cedar Redmen Finish Opening Pre-Season Games Second Best Against Richfield, Piute The Cedar City High School opened up the 1955-56 basketball season last Friday night, entertaining enter-taining Richfiejd and dropping a close battle 51 to 47. Saturday the Redmen traveled to Circle-ville Circle-ville to meet Piute High School and again the Redmen were on the short end of a 51 to 48 fracas. The two games were the exact opposite according to Coach Ray I Englestead. Friday night against Richfield the Redman had a hard time getting get-ting under way. They did not hit their stride until the second half. Trailing by a score of 27 to 13 at halftime, the Redmen bounced back to outscore Richfiejd in the second half by 10 points 34 to 24. However, it was not enough to catch the Richfield crew, coached coach-ed by Darwin Woodbury, former athlete of Cedar High and CoJ-, CoJ-, lege of Southern Utah. Good Start Saturday night at Circleville the Redmen took a commanding lead in the early part of the game and lost out in the final quarter of play. At the end of the half the Redmen were in lead 21 to 17 and at the three quarter quar-ter mark held a 35 to 27 lead. Piute High put on a real splurge in the fourth and final period, scoring 24 points. Nine of the 14 fiejd jfals compiled by the team during the evening came in the fouth quarter and six foul shots added up to enough to down the Redmen. With approximately three minutes min-utes showing on the clock Piute tied up the game and tooK over the lead in the waning two minutes min-utes of play. The Redmen were without the services of Terry Rosenberg Ros-enberg who had left the game on personal fouls shortly after the opening of the third quarter. Dan Webster also fouled out near the end of the third quarter. Both of these boys were scoring for the Redmen. Rosenberg, nevertheless led the Redmen and tied for top scoring honors during the evening eve-ning with 16 points. Webster compiled a total of nine before he left the game. Scoring Honors Friday night against Richfield the Redmen dropped behind shortly after the game was under un-der way as Richfield's Douglas Peterson scored almost at will. It was actually in the third quarter before the Redmen got rolling at all. Webster, a 6-3 center, looked good, in spots and was high for the evening for the Redmen with 12 points compiled on five field goals and two from the foul line in as many tries. Peterson of Richfie.'d tooped all scoring with a phenomenal 23 points. He hit 11 field goals and one from the foul lane.
