Show City PTA Meet Studies Committee Need At a special meeting Tuesday called by the Central Council of the Parent-Teachers Association of Cedar City and attended by leaders and Interested citizens of the community, the need for a Juevnile Protection Committee was discussed. Special guest at the meeting and heading up a number of dis cussions relative to the need for "a Juvenile Protection Committee within the city was Arch M. Thurman, chairman of the Juvenile Ju-venile Protection Committee of the Utah Congress of P-TA. Need for such a committee in Cedar City was discussed pro and con by those in attendance. At the present time the central coun-cU coun-cU has organized an investigation group headed by Mrs. Henry P. Dotson. No action regarding the permanent per-manent establishment of such a committee came forth from the meeting; however, Mrs. Reed W. Farnsworth, council president, In-dlcated In-dlcated that plans were formulated formu-lated to begin work on the prep. aratlon of a petition to present to the Coordinating Council at Its next meeting. ' According to Mr. Farnsworth a petition will be prepared by the P-TA council committee on Ju-The Ju-The council, It Is expected, will formulate a committee to further Investigate the need for such a committee. Upon the recommendation recommen-dation of the appointed committee commit-tee a permanent committee will or will not be formed from that organization. It was s'pecifleally pointed out Tuesday evening that the action being taken Is for preventative purposes. Although Juvenile de llnquency Is at a minimum In Cedar City, the organization Is based on the need for prevention of further delinquency In our community, Mrs. Farnsworth said. Representatives at the meeting were interested citizens and spokesmen for various youth groups, Including representatives of the L D S Church, the police department, all of the schools, the Juvenile court and city offl-venlle offl-venlle protection, for presentation presenta-tion to the Coordinating Council, clals. |
