This request opened a barrage of misdirected and erroneous er-roneous information that did nothing more than cloud the entire issue as to a television service for this, now TV sterile ster-ile area. TCTV was informed by the City Council that a public pub-lic hearing was to be held in which the different "plans" were submitted to the public at large. At this time TCi'V requested of the city council the permission to show its closed circuit product to the people of Cedar City and in the short span of one week delivered this programing. While it is against the policy of TCTV to enter into debate with any proponents, we feel at this time in lieu of certain statements, completely unjustified, that the time has arrived for all of the facts to be laid in front of you. Prior to making our request of the city council a complete com-plete research of Cedar City was conducted by both engineering engi-neering and programing senices that expressly pointed out the fact that your community could not receive television tele-vision through any present or anticipated electronic developments. de-velopments. THIS INCLUDES ANY POSSIBILITY OF FREE TELEVISION. There are 4G5 other communities throughout the U. S with populations up to 35 and 40 thousand, who could noi possibly support a live television station. The economics in volved exclusive of the initial investment could never b supported by your local advertisers. Approximately 10' stations in the U. S. both in VIIF and UHF categoric: have attempted to operate "free television stations" onh to eventually go bankrupt. This has left the community it the position of investing in TV receivers that now n longer receive anv signa' of snv kind We honeti" hopi that Cedar City will not find itself in this same position. We are the only television organization in Cedar Cit; who has network affiliations and the only licensed organ ization to operate as a television studio in your commu nity. Last Friday .evening the council presented an ease ment permit based on certain requirements. Without dis cussing the more legal technicalities the actual highlights ui mis permit should be disclosed to you at this time. We refer here to the appeal of KSUB soliciting community funds, first without a construction con-struction permit, second without a network affiliation, and; third selling stock that is already available on the open ! market, identified in actuality as KSL stock of Salt Lake I City. It is our honest opinion that if tin? city council were in the position to legislate the permits necessary that we j must undergo, in a like manner, with KSUB, that both from a practical and economical standpoint, KSUB would not pursue this "free television idea" any further. If KSUB lis concerned with the economics of whether radio and ; television can live together in the same community, may 'w. point out that this co-relationship is living together " successfully in hundreds of areas throughout the United ; States. We are this week presenting to the city council all of the necessary documents as required for the issuance of this easement permit and we arc confident that this per-t per-t mit will be issued. We are starting immediate construction of both our studio and transmission lines so that Cedar City may have complete television coverage within the ' next 45 days, s f We do not at the present time have a media with which to dispense .information but in a very short time will 3 be in the position of telling you, if necessary, hourly, of n. what progress we are making through the media of TCTV. In summing up the facts may we say this we are in-y in-y vesting large sums of our own money in the development - of this station. We honestly feel we have a genuine ser-" ser-" vice to offer to the people of Cedar City and we are prepared pre-pared to move forward immediately. !
