Show "Messiah" Singers Unite for Combined Practices The severaj singing groups that have been practicing for "The Messiah" met Wednesday even-l ing in one grand ensemble for! the first of the combined rehearsals. rehear-sals. The vast stage at the College Col-lege of Southern Utah auditorium provided an impressive sight with a chorus of 175 voices and an orchestra numbering 65 young musicians. The groups will meet together until the production Dec. 18. "It is a great treat to hear again such a large chorus and orchestra in such numbers as the "Hallelujah" and "Worthy of the Lamb," " Prof. Emeritus William II. Manning, director, said. Prof. Manning has directed the Cedar City singers for 25 of the 31 years that "The Messiah" has been produced here. He expresses express-es his appreciation for the cooperation co-operation being shown by the large representation of high school singers under the direction direc-tion of Wallace B. Adams, by the Canzona Chorus, and the Master Singers. Many musicians from the citizenry of Cedar City who have sung the musicale in prov-ious prov-ious years under Prof. Manning are again joining the organiza-tation. organiza-tation. Prof. Halversen, head of the music department at C S U, is once more working with Prof. Manning in preparing the orchestra orches-tra to accompany the oratorio. The directors commended the college chorus and orchestra members and all groups cooperating cooper-ating with the annuar production. |
