Show SUTil Conference Studies Weighty Matters The Southern Utah Teachers Association board members and presidents of local associations held their December meeting at the Elite Cafe in Beaver Monday, Dec. 5 at 6:30 p. m. with 21 members mem-bers present. As a result of the keen interest shown by each of the representatives, represen-tatives, several important and far reaching topics were thoroughly discussed and planned for immediate im-mediate action. Much of this interest is a reflection re-flection of the thinking in the various affiliated districts of the association by the school personnel person-nel and the parents and patrons also. A project that has been the object of 'much thought and discussion dis-cussion for years' among teachers and parents, namely "professional "profession-al ethics" was given full consideration consid-eration and airing by the group with the result that each chairman chair-man of the professional ethics committee in the various districts will be asked to form a committee commit-tee for the association and pool the thinking of all in the form of an actUm research study. Such Items as. responsibility of the teacher in signing a contract; undermining the status of the teachers :as well as parents; teacher's responsibility to the back- biting, and defining of the teacher's responsibility to the school and children will be given immediate attention with the hope that our schools will be greatly benefited. Second Consideration A second major project that received considerable time and thinking was the inauguration of a spring pet-together of all the teachers in southern Utah for a day and evening of educational exchange, coupled with social entertainment en-tertainment and just plain fun. It was also felt that the board of education would appreciate the opportunity of meeting together and getting' acquainted with fellow fel-low members and teachers from other districts. To keep any worthwhile organization organ-ization healthy and strong it was felt that an annual meeting of its full membership was a! necessity. After discussing the project from many angles pro and con a motion was passed, charging the executive board, consisting of L. C. Miles, president; Dean Is-bell, Is-bell, vice president, and Elliott Cameron, vice president, to further fur-ther investigate the possibilities and feasibilities of such a far-reaching far-reaching project and if found practical . to start laying the groundwork fur a get-together. If and when such an undertaking undertak-ing gets under way it will take the cooperation of all communities communi-ties and districts within the boundaries of S U T A including teachers, parents and civic or-, or-, ganizations. |
