Mrs. Arthur Brown's and Mrs. Clifton Chattcrley's third grades from the West Elementary left Thursday morning for a visit at Rush Lake, the most sacred spot in Utah for the Indians. Conducting the trip was Dr. William R. Palmer, historian. his-torian. Dr. Palmer took the children to the Rush Lake area and pointed out land marks and explained why the area is sacred sa-cred to the Indians. From Rush Lake the group traveled through Parowan Gap and! explored the heiroglyphics in that area. At Little Salt. Lake Dr. Palmer explained the story behind the lake and told how Parowan got its name. Parowan, he explained ex-plained means "Bad Water." The group returned to the class room where the children chil-dren prepared stories and drew pictures, depicting the trip. Both of the classes have been studying Indians and the trip was taken in connection with that study. |
