Show ICE SKATING POND IS READIED Roe Thorley, contractor, and member of the B P O E No. 155G, has undertaken, almost single-handed, single-handed, a project of outstanding nature. It is to build an Ice skating skat-ing pond for the use of the young people of the area. Tuesday night the first water, overflow from the city water tank at the south of town began flowing flow-ing into the ice seating pond which has been leveled and banked just south of the Iron Bowl race track stalls and the Southern Utah Auction arena south on Highway 91. Equipment and time was furnished fur-nished by Thorley to deve.lop the project and the Youth Committee Commit-tee of the Elks, headed by Ned Sargent, obtained the right tc use the property, under lease b the American Legion, and thr right to use water from the city tank. Heavy equipment has been in the area for a week dragging, leveling and banking to hold the water for the pond. It is anticipated that within a! week's time, sufficient water will be in the pond and it will be ready for use provided freezing weather Is prevalent to provide an adequately solid surface. Once the Initial fill is completed it will be a relatively small job to overflow th? pond as it becomes be-comes necessary throughout the winter months. Such a project Is commendatory commenda-tory to the Elks' Club and particularly par-ticularly to Thorley who advocated advo-cated the project, donated equipment equip-ment and labor and saw the pro-Ject pro-Ject to completion in such a short period of time. |
