Show One and One Half Million Dollar Tax Bill Collected When the deadline for the collection col-lection of taxes in Iron County was reach last Thursday, Nov. 1 9(').37 per cent of the total tax bill of $1,502,809.91 levied in the county for this year had been collected, or a total of $1,507,0-19.-90. This was the biggest tax bill ever assessed against the proper-itv proper-itv of Iron Countv. according to Clair Hulet, Iron County treasur-i er, and more than a third of it, J or $528,498. was paid by cnei taxpayer, the Columbia Iron Mining Min-ing company. By far the largest share of thei money collected in Iron County j I goes to the support of education, I 1 73.40 to be exact. Following this is the county with 16.67 of the total, and the county is followed fol-lowed by incorporated cities and towns, of which there are four in the county, who come in for 9.437c and last, is the levy for special taxes which gets .50 of one per cent. Of the total collected $1,147,-046.61 $1,147,-046.61 forms the 73.40 going to the schools of the county and state. $954,769.58 is collected and used by the Iron County School District under the direction of the local board of education, and $192,277.30 goes to the state of Utah's uniform school fund. Represented in th 9.43 which goes to the cities and towns of the county are $131,105,41 to Cedar Ce-dar City, which is by far the largest larg-est of the Incorporated communities commu-nities in the countv. Parowan re-ceives re-ceives $14,288.86. Paraconah St.- 238.49, and Kanarraville. $794.31. This leave only $222,476.22 for the support of the Iron County government and its various departments de-partments according to these figures. fig-ures. Mr. Hulet states that tentative settlements have already been made with all of the above mentioned men-tioned taxing units, but that the final settlement will have to wait until sometime after the first of the year. |
