Show Award 4-H'ers Chicago Congress Trips ill . V "I tl - x I si , " 1 FoirUlli Jickion Jowph Bonteel Dtnnti Hndry Mrgrt AMon ALL-EXPENSE trips to the 32nd National 4-H Club Congress in Chicago have gone to four Utah club members who have distinguished distin-guished themselves in the 1953 National 4-H Dairy Achievement, Farm nd Home Safety, Garden, and Home Improvement, programs. Summaries Sum-maries of achievements of the state winners are as follows: NoU-worthy results in the 4-H Farm and Home Safety program have been accomplished by Fon U'lla Jackson, 18, of Payson, for which she received as state win-ncr,theGeneral win-ncr,theGeneral Motors trip award to the 4-II Club Congress. She helped make her community more safety conscious by means of surveys, sur-veys, demonstrations and other aid. Fonk'lla made safety surveys each year receiving the cooperation coopera-tion of neighbors. She took part In a panel discussion of "Safety on the Farm." 4-H Club members asked for Wood donors in case of an emergency. emer-gency. They received fine support, and arrangements were made to type 12 persons at a time. The hospital now has a record of donors and blood types. a Fontella learned to both practice prac-tice and promote safety during her eight years in 4-H. She was president in 1953 of the Dainty Domestics 4 H Club, of which Ina O. Sheets is adult leader. Gardening, a favorite project -with Joseph Bonacci, 16, of Helper, not only has helped with the family budget and promoted relaxation and good health, but has brought him stateside recognition recog-nition in the 4-H Garden awards program. Hig trip award to the 4-H Club Congress was provided by Allis-Chalmers. Joseph has 234 neat rows in his 1V4 acres. He raised corn, beans, .squash, peppers, cucumbers, cauliflower cauli-flower and numerous other varieties vari-eties of vegetables. From his exhibit ex-hibit at the fair, he was chosen to show these vegetables on TV. He has worked as a junior leader and been active in community affairs. af-fairs. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Vito Bonacci, have given him advice and encouragement whenever he needed it. ! ii urn ..!- Excellent work in dairy production produc-tion and management has brought recognition in Utah to Dennis Hendry, 16, of Wellsville. Dennis, as Dairy Achievement winner, will attend the 4-H Congress in Chicago as guest of the National Committee on Boys and Girls Club Work. A 4-H Club member for 8 years, Dennis learned the application of modern, scientific methods, and the importance of cleanliness and sanitation in the handling of dairy animals. He has carried a dairy project for five years and this year had three dairy exhibits. This year he won three trophies. His calf "Bessie Waldorf Monarch" Mon-arch" this year won a trophy awarded for the best junior 4-H animal. Two of her heifers won blue ribbons at the State Fair. Dennis' father, Leon A. Hendry, operates a 130 acre farm. Margaret Ashton, 19, of Provo, turned her efforts toward making the Interior of her home more comfortable and attractive in the 4-H Home Improvement program. State honors and a trip to the National Na-tional Congress were awarded to Margaret, a fine bonus for good planning and painstaking effort. The trip was provided through the courtesy of the Sears-Roebuck Foundation. A member of the Sew, Rip and Baste Club for 7 years, she Is serving this year as president and leader. Margaret painted woodwork in a new addition and also In the living room, reflnishlng a few pieces of furniture. Next she redid the wall and furniture in the nursery. Then she completed a chest for her bedroom bed-room and made drapes and a quilt for It. All these programs are conducted under the direction of the Cooperative Cooper-ative Extension Service. |
