Show Seven Iron County Youths Volunteer For Military Service .'even Iron County men have completed their applications for voluntary induction into military seiUoe under Selective Service, according to K. B. Dalley. However, How-ever, two of the men who, it was indicated last week, would volun-t(vi, volun-t(vi, have decided not to go in umiei Selective Service, but instead in-stead have volunteered for service ser-vice with the Air Force. One other oth-er young man who had indicated he would volunteer, has changed his mind and decided not to enter en-ter service at the present time. Gary L. Smith and Van L. Cutler, Cut-ler, both of Cedar City, have jciiied the Air Force and will u-port u-port soon. Karon Heap of Parowan. Paro-wan. who had indicated that lie wo i. Id volunteer, has decided to dtlay entering the service until a later date. Seven men who have signed their volunteer papers are all from Cedar City, including Je.vse II. Mathews, John Roden Willie Wil-lie ms, Robert Leslie Pace, John Gary Middleton, Jack C. Sargent, Dee Albert Smith and Glen M. Kianigan. Huee other Cedar City men, Gail Miles, Blaine Lund and Dan Pcikins are considering following the action of these seven but have not signed their applications applica-tions as yet. Under Selective Service regu-lanons regu-lanons a volunteer automatically automatical-ly goes to the head of the list to fili the next quota of men from the county, with the result that othei registrants who otherwise would have been inducted receive re-ceive a delay In their order to report. re-port. If the next call for men ironi the county, which should be sometime in January, is not as high as the number of men vol-unteering, vol-unteering, the first to have s'gned applications will be inducted, in-ducted, and the others will wait a later call. No call for men in January has yet been received by the local lo-cal board. |
