Show Cong. Stringfellow Announces Coast Guard Exams Today Congressman Douglas R. i Stringfellow announced that the competitive examination for entrance en-trance to the U. S. Coast Guard Academy will be held nationwide nation-wide on rtb. 23 and 24, 1954., These examinations will be given , in 109 cities. Congressman Stringfellow em-' phasized the opportunity offered oung men between 17 and 22 who choose this four-year course which leads to a bachelor of science sci-ence degree in enginering and a commission as a career officer in America's oldest sea-going service. ser-vice. "There are no appointments or geographical quotas for entrance to the Coast Guard Academy," he said. "I urge all qualified young men who are interested in a worthwhile profession to write as soon as possible to Coast Guard Headquarters in Washington, Washing-ton, D. C. Applications must be postmarked on or before Jan. 15." The Congressman further stated stat-ed that booklets and further information in-formation on the Academy may be obtained by calling or writing to his office in the Hotel Ben Lomond, Lo-mond, Ogden, Utah. Candidates for the Coast Guard Academy must be single, between the ages of 17 and 22, and in excellent physical condition. condi-tion. They must have outstanding outstand-ing character references and standing in their communities. A high school diploma is the minimum educational requirements require-ments although high school seniors sen-iors assured of being graduated by June 30 are eligible to take the examination if they will have at least 15 credits by that time. 'All applicants must have three units of English, two of algebra, and one each of physics and plane geometry. |
