Show if t V j i i High School News By Hans Feig j Basketball Coach Ray Englestead, basketball basket-ball mentor at Cedar City high school, will follow a different pattern of selecting his team this year. From his physical education rlassed and the three o'clock athletic ath-letic period, about 50 boys, who te thinks have a chance for the main team, are competing on selected se-lected teams in an intra mural coniest this week. Of the aforesaid afore-said number, 12 will comprise the basketball team. Coach Englestead says this method will save time in choosing choos-ing the squad, as the first practice prac-tice game is not far off. "If I used my usual way," the coach concludes, "I would have a hard time In selecting the squad. This way I can watch the boys competing com-peting under fire and see which ones could qualify for a basketball basket-ball team. Harvest Ball TTA rind FHA officers at Cedar City high school announced the complelion of plans for their annual an-nual Harvest Ball to be held November No-vember 23 at the high school gym. Theme lor the dance and morning assembly will be "In-fiian "In-fiian Summer." The assembly in Cue morning is in charge ofas-wrubly ofas-wrubly chairman Tat Pace and will include skits, songs and dauixs involving the four seasons sea-sons of the year. The informal dance, under the iirrction of Elayne Green, is scheduled for 9 o'clock with the 'Starlighters orchestra furnishing the music. Candidates who are vying for the honor of Harvest Queen will bo chosen at the dance. The candidates can-didates are elected by the senior, junior and sophomore classes at the beginning of the school term along with class officers. The sophomore class is sponsoring Geraldine Smith. Bonnie Steiner is the candidate of the juniors, and Helen Harris will represent the seniors. A gala affair is in store for the ones attending the dance, as a floor show is being planned, and refreshments will be served. Insignia Members of the Cedar City high school student council Tuesday Tues-day adopted a serious Indian face as the permanent official school insignia. The Cedar high school handbook, hand-book, which is now being revised, re-vised, will contain the names, addresses, and telephone numbers num-bers of all the students as a school directory, announced Janet Ja-net Wasden, student body vice president. Pop Club Cedar City high school's Pep Club honored and toasted Coach Glen Jackson and members of the high school football team at a special banquet held Nov. 18 at the school building. Each year the giils of the Pep Club pay tribute to the football squad with a banquet in their honor and this year have had special spe-cial cause for an elaborate cele-biation, cele-biation, as the Redmen for (he second straight year have cap- tured the Region Six football crown. A football assembly will be presented to the high school student stu-dent body by the pep club organization or-ganization Friday morning, Nov. 20. A dance will follow that night. At the assembly and dance, a "Mr. Touchdown," selected by the pep club girls, and a "football queen," selected by the member of the team, will reign over the final football activity of 1953 at Cedar City high school. |
