Show Cedar High Coach Prepares for Basketball Season Basketball practice has started at the Cedar City high .scnool I with Coach Ray Englestead look- I ing for a complete new team to icplace the first seven men of his last year's squad, lost by graduation. gradua-tion. Graduation robbed Coach Englestead En-glestead of Keith Cooley, Lawrence Law-rence Ashdown, Don Ray Mel:-Ing, Mel:-Ing, J. N. Webster, Wendle Holmes, Ray Stephenson and Lilly Naegle. Of course, the coach had another eight or 10 men on his squad who will undoubtedly fill the shoes of the above group very capably. Two of them, Steve Lunt and Rodney Prisbrey, weie juniors, but all the others were sophomores. Eight practice games have been scheduled for December, the Redmen journeying to Richfield Rich-field on Dee, 4 for the first game of the season. The following night Coach Ray Englested's team will entertain Gunnison. On Dec. 11 the Redmen will play at Panguitch, and the following night will meet the Parowan Rams at Parowan. The next week end an Iron County tournament will be played play-ed wiih four teams participating in the two-nighl affair. The first night games will be played in the new gymnasium at Parowan with Cedar meeting Cyprus and Parowan meeting Springville. The following night Parowan will play Cyprus and Cedar will meet Springville in the CSU field-house field-house in Cedar City. The final practice games will biing the Panguitch and Parowan Paro-wan high school teams to Cedar City for games on Dec. 26 and Dec. 28 respectively. The- league schedule will open on Friday, Jan. 8. |
